Planning A Cross Country Flight

- Get a weather briefing from FSS 1(800) WX-BRIEF. Ask
for a standard VFR Weather briefing. Give them your N#,
type of aircraft, departure point, destination and time
of departure.
- Draw your course line on our chart from your
departure point to your destination.
- Obtain the True Course (TC) with your plotter.
- Add or subtract the magnetic variation to get your
Magnetic Course (MC).
- Measure the distance between your departure point to
your destination in knots.
- Figure Wind Correction Angle (WCA) and Ground Speed
on your E6B.
- Choose your cruising altitude based on the
hemispheric rule and winds of aloft forecast.
- Choose checkpoints, measure distance and calculate
flight time between them. Enter total time of flight on
flight log.
- Calculate fuel needed.
- Get all information on airports of intended landing.
Frequencies, runway lengths, traffic patter altitudes,
NOTEMS etc.
- Fill out your Flight Plan Form and file it with FSS.
